Robert Andersen has taught at CCS since 1998 and is the former Chair of the Animation and Digital Media Department and in 2000, initiated the digital cinema focus. He is the founder and past president of the Detroit Film Center, a non-profit media arts center supporting independent 16mm filmmaking in the Detroit metro area. His personal work consists of numerous film projects and art installations involving the projection of 16mm films within galleries, museums and the windows of public spaces. They are intended, in part, to explore the processes by which cinema makes meaning and communicates its ideas and emotions. His work has been included in numerous national and international exhibitions, and he is one of 159 artists featured in El Arte que viene/The Art to Come by Paco Barragan published in 2003. Recently awarded one of 25 Creative Artist Grants in Michigan, Andersen is currently planning two large-scale projects. He was recognized as an Apple Distinguished Educator in 2005 and is a consultant on contemporary media, media arts education, technology, and non-profit development.
