Scott Northrup is a native Detroiter. He earned his BFA at the Center for Creative Studies (Detroit, 1992) and his MA in Media Studies from The New School for Social Research (New York, 2003).
Northrupʼs varied body of work includes assemblage, photography, film and video as well as other non-traditional media. His work has shown in galleries, museums and alternative spaces including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA, NYC), the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD, Detroit), vOID (NYC), and the Max M. Fisher Music Center (Detroit). His experimental films and video installations have been official selections of the Ann Arbor Film Festival (AAFF, Ann Arbor, MI) and Media City (Canada) among others. He has also served on the Board of Trustees for House of Toast (HOT, Canada) and the AAFFʼs screening committees.
Northrup has received state and private grant funding toward video projects with youth support groups and art therapy programs within the Henry Ford Health System (Detroit; 1994, 2006) and volunteered with Ground Hero Kids (NYC, 2001). He currently is an Assistant Professor at the College for Creative Studies teaching courses in Video Art & Production. He lives and works in Metro Detroit.
