Scott Northrup

RESEARCH INTERESTS:

Assistant Professor Northrup is most interested in identity construction and its relation to storytelling, social interaction, popular culture, and performance.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Scott Northrup is an artist and educator who has been a core member of the Entertainment Arts faculty since 2006, teaching courses in narrative, documentary, and experimental filmmaking, as well as interdisciplinary studios with an eye toward social consciousness. His varied body of personal work includes film, video, photography, collage, assemblage, handmade books, zines, drawings, and installations.

Significant publications/presentations/exhibitions/projects:

Northrup has exhibited in galleries, museums, film festivals, and alternative spaces including Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD), Museum of Modern Art (MoMA, NY), Gesamtkunstwerk Projectraum (Miami), Arteles Creative Center (Finland), N╩╝Namdi Center for Contemporary Art (Detroit), Max M. Fisher Music Center (Detroit), vOID (NY), Ann Arbor Film Festival (AAFF), Media City (Canada), Mothlight Microcinema (Detroit), Dlectricity (Detroit), and Detroit Design Festival. He has curated exhibitions and screenings for Scarab Club (Detroit), Scrummage University (Detroit), Detroit Fringe Festival, College for Creative Studies, and others. He has served on the Board of Directors for House of Toast Film & Video Collective (Canada), AAFF’s Education Committee, and several advisory boards. He has received state and private grant funding toward video projects in conjunction with Henry Ford Health System (Detroit) and volunteered with Ground Hero Kids (NYC). His work has been written about and featured on Hyperallergic, Essay’d, DDEAF, and the Knight Foundation.
