Keith Newton’s skills have primarily been acquired through self-education and a passion to create art. “As a young man I spent most of my time painting”. Practice and a strong desire led him to develop a well-rounded ability that uniquely spans many genres. He received formal training at the New York Art Students League in 1989, received the prestigious Grumbacher Emerging Artist Award and Pastel Society Gold Medallion for a work shown in the National Arts Club in New York. Newton worked for Disney as a background artist on numerous films and worked as a theatrical set painter for over 60 professional stage productions. He also provides illustrations for children’s books for several private companies, and does portraiture paintings for private individuals. Today he is a fine artist and illustrator. Currently he is in his sixth year of teaching at the College for Creative Arts in Detroit.
