Don Kilpatrick is department chairperson of the College for Creative Studies (CCS) Illustration department in Detroit. He recently moved to Michigan with his family to begin teaching illustration at the college and then was promoted to his current position.
He has created illustrations for advertising, design, editorial, and motion picture clients, and was involved in the design of the Olympic medal for the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City. He has received numerous awards from organizations such as The Society of Illustrators, and Communication Arts. His work was recently featured in “Illustration Now Volume 2”, a selection of illustrators’’ work from around the world. His first children’s picture book, “You Can’t go to School Naked”, was released in July 2008 from Penguin Young Readers Group. Recently his work was awarded a Gold medal from the 2010 3x3 annual of Illustration, and is now preparing for his first gallery solo show in November 2012 .
