Sherry Erskine’s career in art education encompasses a wide array of interests and interdisciplinary arts experiences. Raised in Detroit, she earned a BFA in Graphic Design and a MA in Art Education from Michigan State University. She has held a variety of positions in arts management; most notably serving as Technical Director for The Asia Society Performing Arts Center in New York City. Erskine has twenty-five years’ experience in public school education, including teaching Theater Craft at Grosse Pointe North High School, and Kindergarten and 1st grade in New York City Public Schools. In 2010, she retired after seventeen years of teaching Visual Art K-8 at West Ottawa (MI) Elementary and Middle Schools. Subsequently, she developed art education practicum and taught methods courses for Hope College. Authoring K-16 integrated visual arts curriculum and mentoring future art teachers remain continuing goals of her professional practice. Guiding principles: inquiry, constructive engagement, compassion and collaboration. Erskine teaches Elementary Art Teaching, Methods, Materials and Content Area Literacy while Supervising Student Teachers in Art at CCS.
