Joyce Brienza

Brienza is a Detroit based artist who has studied with Peter Williams at Wayne State University and later received an MFA at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University where she was tutored by feminist lumminaries Joan Semmel and Martha Rosler.

Brienza has been active in the Detroit based performance collective “Catharctic Circle” lead by Sue Carman, and has exhibited work nationally and internationally.  She has taught art in New Jersey and California and is a regular lecturer at College for Creative Studies in Detroit, and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She has recieved Artist in Residence awards at the Walt Whitman Center for the Culture and Politics of Democracy at Rutgers University, and Detroit Childrens Hospital where her multiple collaborations with young patients have been permanently installed throughout the building.
