Accreditation

The College for Creative Studies is a nonprofit, private college authorized by the Michigan Education Department to grant Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. CCS is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Documents regarding accreditation are available in the Executive Office upon formal request.

In order to make the accreditation process responsive to a broad range of constituents, the accrediting agencies invite the public to provide written comments about the College’s qualifications for continued accreditation. If you wish to comment, please contact either agency by letter or email.

Institutional Accreditation

The Higher Learning Commission (HLC), is an independent corporation that accredits institutions in the North Central region of the U.S, and is the regional body that accredits the College for Creative Studies (CCS). HLC is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Seven regional bodies accredit degree-granting post-secondary institutions throughout the United States, one of which is HLC.

HLC provides several different pathways to reaccreditation. CCS participates in the Open Pathway process, which takes place in ten-year cycles and includes a mid-cycle assurance review, a late-cycle quality initiative, and a comprehensive review. At the end of each ten-year cycle, a visiting team of HLC peer reviewers visits the College. CCS’s next ten year review is scheduled for 2025.
