New Student Orientation

Very soon, you will be an official CCS student! Welcome! We can’t wait to see you around campus, but before you start your first day of classes, our orientation will help prepare you for all that CCS has to offer. 

The schedule for Orientation and other related events is below and don’t forget to review several of the Welcome Week Activities designed to help students become acclimated with campus.

Family Orientation

Welcome New CCS Families!
We would like to invite you to attend our Family Orientation Session on:

Sunday, August 25 at 3:00 p.m.
General Motors Auditorium
A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design
485 West Milwaukee Street, Detroit

This session is designed to provide a general overview of what a new student can expect while enrolled at CCS. We will cover student support services, the first year, and answer questions from family members. This session is open to the families of the new and transfer students.

After the orientation, please join your CCS Student at a reception celebrating the start of their academic career at CCS.

Welcome Week Activities

All activities are open to both residents and commuters. Some highlights of Welcome Week are:

Saturday, August 31

EXPERIENCE DETROIT
Join returning students on guided trips to experience some of what Detroit has to offer. Trips typically include the Greektown District, the Midtown Neighborhood and the New Center Area. Meet in the Ford Campus Sculpture Garden at 4 p.m.

Sunday, September

TOUR DE DETROIT
The tour is an annual tradition and on fo the featured events of Welcome Week. On a guided bus tour of downtown Detroit and the College’s neighborhood, student will see some of the great sites of Detroit and become familiarized with the city and surrounding areas. Two major stops include the Detroit Jazz Festival and the Hamtramck Festival. Student are asked to sign up in advance in the Office of Student Affairs.

Pick up the bus at 1 p.m. on Kirby Street next to the Art Centre Building.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL
An annual tradition at CCS! All the ice cream and toppings you can eat while hanging out with new and returning students.

Starts at 7 p.m. in the Ford Campus Sculpture Garden.

Monday, September 2

LABOR DAY PICNIC
Every year the Resident Assistant staff puts on a picnic for the campus community on Labor Day. Free food, music and games, volleyball, mural painting, four square, slip-n-slide and water balloon fights are some the highlights from previous years.

3 p.m. in the Ford Campus Sculpture Garden.

Tuesday, September 4

WELCOME BACK DINNER
On the first day of classes, CCS welcomes everyone back to campus in style with a huge BBQ on the Ford Campus at 6 p.m. This is a great opportunity to socialize with fellow new students and meet returning students.
