Department Highlights - Interior Design

The Senior Studio class invited Kenn Rickman from Interface Flooring to lecture about Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). Rickman is the U.S. Green Building Council Detroit Regional Chairman. LEED is a third-party certification program that is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.

The freshman-level Residential Design class took a field trip to the Michigan Design Center. They toured several shops featuring furniture, fabrics and tile, and learned how to utilize the center as a resource. The class also visited the store Gordies Knot to examine carpet samples to be used in an upcoming design competition that runs annually.

Students of the Lighting Technology & Application class completed a review and critique of Somerset Mall North, which is a strong example of contemporary retail lighting.

Junior-level students visited MGM Grand casino to examine the open lounge areas.
