The Alumni Challenge: $20 can make a difference
The Alumni Challenge will allow CCS Alumni to participate in shaping the future of their alma mater. The goal of the Challenge is to raise 250 gifts at any level from Alumni. Even small gifts of $10, $25 or $50 will help us to reach our goal. All donors will receive recognition on the alumni donor wall. Raising these funds is necessary to support the College’s expansion while allowing CCS to sustain student scholarships and continue providing the highest quality education. Retirement of Nelson Greer & Lester Johnson
The end of the school year marked the retirement of two beloved professors at CCS. Nelson Greer, Professor in Graphic Design and Lester Johnson, Professor in Fine Arts have retired from full time teaching at the College. Both Nelson and Lester began their careers at CCS 35 years ago, in September of 1975. In his retirement, Lester will be concentrating on his personal work and traveling to cities that are considered ‘art centers’ around the U.S. and abroad. Nelson will still teach part-time at CCS in Fall 2010, and will spend time focusing on one of his favorite hobbies: the game of golf. Congratulations to both Lester and Nelson!

In Their Own Words
Jessica Serran (FA ’00) recently completed a collaborative project with poet Eleanor Johnson.
"HER MANY FEATHERED BONES : A Collaborative Book of Drawing and Poetry, by Jessica Serran and Eleanor Johnson. Published by Achiote Press, Berkeley, CA, 2010.
Her Many Feathered Bones is a collaborative book, an experiment in slow dialogue. Wishing to integrate visual and verbal art in a way that would privilege neither form over the other, we began this project with a small number of drawings and a single poem; the drawings generated several new poems, the poem, six new drawings. Later, poems sometimes incorporated images and words from the drawings; sometimes, they emerged more associatively. Similarly, the drawings that grew out of poems remained securely rooted in the images and words of the poem, and sometimes not.”
Excerpts of the book may be seen on Jessica’s website: http://www.jessicaserran.com/objects.hermanyfeatheredbones.html
Passings
The College is sad to report the passing of Liberal Arts department adjunct faculty member Henrietta Epstein. Henrietta taught a variety of literature courses in her 16 years at CCS. She was well-liked by colleagues and students and will be greatly missed.
