Alumni Exhibitions

The work of Illustration alumni Josh Buckenberger (IL '07) and Serge Gay (IL '06), and CCS student Andrea Kowch, is featured in the Northville Art House's exhibition, "Continuance-The Persistence of Personal Vision." This annual show of CCS Illustration alumni celebrates the cutting edge of illustration art and will be on display through March 22. For more information, click here.

Barbara Dorchen (FA '77) was part of the exhibition, "The Word as Image" at the Grosse Pointe Art Center last fall. She was also included in the "Andreas Serrano Picks Detroit" show at CCS's Center Galleries. Her work is currently exhibited at the Downreiver Arts Council in Taylor, Michigan and can be viewed through April 6. Patrick Burton (FA '81) was part of a recent two-man show called, "Identity Joys", at the Community Center @ Paramount Gallery in Ferndale, Michigan. The exhibited highlighted the work of two artists whose art addresses the intimate relationships between partners.

Work.Detroit, a unique component of the University of Michigan School of Art & Design, recently hosted an exhibition called, "Change." The exhibit, which was co-curated by George Rahme (FA '07) and CCS Illustration faculty Stephen Schudlich, is about the present and future constructs of culture and society. The exhibit includes the work of Deborah Kashdan (FA '80), George Rahme (FA '07), Sarah Trahan (PH '06), Vanessa Merrill (FA '07), Vince Troia (FA '07), David Flaugher (FA '08), Kevin Beasley (FA '07), Christina Galasso (FA '08) and Miroslav Cukovic (FA '05). Taurus Burns (FA '02) is currently in a solo show at the Paint Creek Center for the Arts in Rochester, Michigan. The show, "Detroit Cityscapes", is a series of urban landscapes inspired by scenes throughout the city. For more information and gallery hours, visit www.pccart.org/page4.php

Earlier this season, the Paint Creek Center for the Arts featured the work of Rob Kangas (PH '80) in a two-man exhibition called, "Photos of the Ambiguous Landscape". Rob has served as the Program Coordinator of the Photography Department of Oakland Community College's Royal Oak Campus for the past 21 years. Additionally, he is the recipient of a Michigan Council for the Arts Creative Artist Grant. His work is in the collection of the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Lucy Maliszewski (FA '75) won acceptance into the prestigious American Juried Art Salon's 2008 Fall-Winter Show. The accepted work is titled, "After The Storm," an oil painting that was part of her studies of lighthouses. The twice-a-year competition attracts entries from around the world. Jurists include gallery owners, directors and well-known college and university art professors in North America. Over the past several months, the work of Michelle Hinebrook (GC-IL '01) has been shown in Washington, DC through the Project 4 Gallery, in the Daimler Financial Services corporate offices as part of their corporate collection and loan program, and in the "Directors Choice: Obsession at Center Galleries" exhibit on the CCS campus.
