CCS One Week at a Time
Young Artist Program: summer 2008
Our newly updated summer program offers kids 6-15 a chance to study art all day, one week at a time. Each week focuses on a theme with an AM course, midday outdoor project and a PM course. Those who register in 6 or 3 week clusters receive a significant discount and deferred payment options are available. Ask about our sibling discounts too! Registration begins February 12.

Computer Animation

Tuition Rates per student:
Cost for 6 week cluster: $1,100 per student (includes materials) SAVES $400
Cost for 3 week cluster: $ 600 per student (includes materials) SAVES $150
Cost for individual weeks: $250 per student (includes materials) * Single classes must be paid in full at time of registration.
Note: Student must register for all weeks in a cluster at one time to receive discounted tuition rates.
All sessions meet Monday-Friday, 9:30 am - 4 pm
Week 1 - June 16-20
Sculpture
Students will learn to take their ideas and communicate them through a 3 dimensional form. Students ages 6-10 will explore clay and found object sculpture techniques. Students ages 11-15 will learn clay mold making techniques and basic metalsmithing.
Week 2 - June 23-27
Transformer Design
Students will learn basic drawing, design and planning techniques and apply them to 2D and 3D character concepts. Both 6-10 and 11-15 year olds will create unique figures that can change form. Model making techniques will allow that figure to come to life.
Week 3 - June 30-July 3 (no class July 4)
Drawing
Students learn the core principles of using various traditional media. Students ages 11-15 will begin to learn to draw from a clothed model – a difficult but highly valued skill.
Week 4 - July 7-11
Cartooning
All students will work on sequential story telling skills that are necessary for successful cartooning. Students ages 6-10 will focus on foundation illustration techniques and developing a unique 3D character of their own. Older students will focus on more advanced illustration techniques and incorporating character development.
Week 5 - July 14-18
Painting
Learn to paint by mixing a variety of traditional and experimental materials. Students ages 6-10 will learn about communicating with color and mural painting. Students ages 11-15 will also create murals and learn about color using inks and printmaking techniques.
Week 6 - July 21-25
Puppets and Maquettes
Students will create puppets while learning the history of puppet making and learn the story telling elements that accompany it. Younger students will focus on puppet creation and dioramas for them. Older students will work to create animation maquettes and character story telling elements.
Week 7 - July 28-August 1
Computer Animation
Learn the foundation elements of computer animation using traditional drawing and sequencing techniques. Students ages 6-10 will focus on creating simple animations and then adding more complex elements to them such as music. Students ages 11-15 will focus on creating stop motion animation with digital software and tools.
Week 8 - August 4-8
Fashion
Students work on fashion drawing techniques to explore various aspects of creating a fashion line. Students age 6-10 will create a design board and create their own unique textile patterns. Students age 11-15 will learn how to create illustrations from the clothed figure, as well as their own unique textile designs.
Transportation Design
Students are introduced to the aesthetics and standards and methods used when designing vehicles. All students will practice basic drawing and rendering techniques by combining simple shapes to make new forms. Students ages 6-10 will explore fantastical vehicles and various methods of transportation. Students ages 11-15 will take their drawing skills and apply them to the creation of a 3 dimensional clay model.
