About the Center Galleries

CCS’ Center Galleries, a dynamic forum for contemporary visual, literary and performance art and design, is an integral component of the College for Creative Studies, and a mainstay of the Detroit art community.

With nearly 6,000 square feet of exhibition space, Center Galleries presents the work of local, national, and international artists, as well as that of CCS faculty, alumni and students, in four galleries including the Main Gallery, U245, the student-run gallery, Alumni & Faculty Hall, a space designated for regularly scheduled exhibitions of work by alumni and faculty, and the College’s Permanent Collection Gallery.

Founded in1988, Center Galleries is dedicated to exploring the relationship between culture and artistic practice, fostering intellectual inquiry, and creating multidisciplinary exhibitions and educational programming that enable diverse audiences to connect art experiences to everyday life.

Center Galleries Anniversary Season

The 2008-2009 Anniversary Season marks a number of significant milestones: Center Galleries' 20th anniversary overall, and the 10th in its current space on campus in the Manoogian Visual Resource Center; the Woodward Lecture Series' 10th anniversary; and Michelle Perron's 10th anniversary as director of both programs. All exhibitions, special events, publications, and lecture events will celebrate these anniversaries.
