Graphic Design Awards


  • Megan Deal, Ken Blaznek and Michael Schaefer were awarded the University and College Designers Association (UCDA) Award of Excellence for SPINE 2007.

  • Daryl Tanghe received a Gold Award from the UCDA in the Electronic Media Division for his Auricular Typeface and Navigation Interface. Rachel Kayuk and Yanina Shoykhet also won an Award of Excellence in this division for their piece, People Forms.

  • Michael Johns and Colleen McGinn won a Silver award for Project Green Line, and Katie Cauzillo and Lori Maday won an Award of Excellence for Vital Genes in the Going Green – Message category of the UCDA awards.

  • Jessica Sheeran won a “Certificate of Typographic Excellence" from the Type Directors Club for her work on the "Chance" poster.

  • Several Graphic Design students took home awards in the AIGA Detroit’s 2007 design competition Design Re: View.

  • Basia Rochon was named a design winner by CMYK Magazine for her IKEA book. Photos of her book will appear in CMYK’s winter 2007-2008 issue, hitting newsstands in May 2008.

  • Scott Waraniak collaborated with Dodge on the design of the Dakota MX Warrior, which was unveiled at the 2007 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas.

  • Dave Knoph, Rachel Kayuk and Marius Indrei received a HOW Interactive Design Award of Merit for the 2007 Student Showcase piece. The piece appeared in the April 2008 HOW Magazine Design Annual.

  • Ryan McCarthy won two D Show awards for his work with Latcha + Associates. Both the Journalist Jury Award and the Publications – Annual Report Award were given to the Boy Scouts of America Detroit Area Council 2006 Annual Report. McCarthy was the communication designer for the piece.

  • The CCS team of Adam Lonczynski and Marius Indrei won the Microsoft Silverlight U.S. Interface Design Invitational Competition and the $10,000 top prize. Ryan McCarthy and Sean McCarthy took third place and $2,500. Both teams will present their designs at the HOW Design in Boston from May 18-21, 2008. The competition challenged students to create functional, compelling, forward-thinking user interfaces and pitted CCS student teams against those from Arizona State University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Savannah College of Art and Design and Pratt Institute. Seven out of the twelve student teams to advance to the final round of the competition were from CCS. Other students to make it to the final round of the competition include Zack Barozzini, Colleen McGinn, Jayme Ludwig, Lauren Totman, Yanina Shoykheet, Ken Blaznek, Samuel Kojiro, Kristi Pesick, Shaun Strack and Tracy Gabrys.
