Past Awards
- John McDougal won Best Eco Design and was second runner up for Best Use of Technology in the annual Interior Motives Design awards. Work by Evan Mai also advanced to the final round of judging.
- Ludwin Cruz won the PPG Design Challenge Awards for 2007 and a $1,500 scholarship. The competition challenged students to design a premium midsize multi-activity vehicle with new window systems to meet the styling and image-enhancing needs of a 20-something male target consumer. Woo Sung Lee won second place and a $1,000 scholarship and third place and a $500 scholarship went to Andrew Ho.
- Matt Green won first place for both vehicle design and tire and wheel concept design in the 19th Annual Michelin Design Challenge. Twelve students participated in the challenge, each creating a vehicle design and a tire/wheel assembly they could envision driving in 2017 using the theme, “Smaller. Safer. Better.” Other students winning awards included Mahdi Chowdhury, second place vehicle design; Tyler Mars, third place vehicle design and second place tire and wheel concept design; and Jonathan Kyte, third place tire and wheel concept design. Michelin presented the first-place winners with $1,250 scholarships. Second-place winners received $1,000 scholarships, and third-place winners earned $750 scholarships.
- Jay Uh won first place and a $1,500 scholarship in the annual National Association for Surface Finishing (NASF) Bright Design Challenge. The competition asked students to design hybrid vehicles that incorporate the innovative use of chrome and bright trim styling. Other award recipients were Dong Tran, second place and a $1,000 scholarship; Zack Whitaker, third place and a $500 scholarship; and Evan Mai, fourth place and a $250 scholarship. The annual competition is one of the surface finishing industries most colorful and celebrated competitions aimed at promoting electroplated finishes in automotive design.
