Welcome Week Activities
Welcome Week takes place concurrently with the first week of CCS FYE. The week encompasses Student Housing Move-In, orientation information sessions, and various social and educational activities designed to help students acclimate themselves to CCS.
All activities are open to both residents and commuters. Some highlights of Welcome Week are:
Tour De Detroit – Sunday, September 4th
The Tour is an annual tradition and is one of the featured events of Welcome Week. The Tour is a guided bus tour of downtown Detroit and our neighborhood. Students will see some of the great sites of Detroit and become familiarized with the city and surrounding areas. Two major stops are the Detroit Jazz Festival and the Hamtramck Festival. Students are asked to sign up in advance through the Office of Student Life.
Labor Day Picnic – Monday, September 5th
Every year the Resident Assistant staff puts on a picnic for the campus community on Labor Day. Free food, music and games; volleyball, mural painting, four square, slip-n-slide and water balloon fights are some of the highlights from previous years.
Welcome Back Dinner – Tuesday, September 6th
On the first day of classes, CCS welcomes everyone back to campus in style with a huge barbeque on the Ford Campus. A great opportunity to socialize with fellow new students and meet returning CCS students.
Community Outings
Throughout the week, group trips to parks, theaters and local hot spots will be planned. The annual trip to Greek Town is always a hit. Look for information sent out via email and posted around campus.
Community Service Trips
CCS is working with numerous local community service organizations to plan service opportunities during Welcome Week. This is a great way to get to know fellow students, staff and faculty while getting in touch with the Detroit community.
