Welcome Week Activities

Welcome Week takes place the week prior to classes starting. The week encompasses New Student Move-In, New Student Orientation and various social activities designed to begin acclimating new students to CCS and building relationships with fellow students. Social activities generally include events like the CCS Mural Project, sports, community service projects and performers.

Tour De Detroit

The Tour is an annual tradition and is one of the feature events for Welcome Week. The Tour is a guided bus tour of greater Detroit and our neighborhood. Students will see some of the great sites of Detroit and become familiarized with the city and surrounding area.

Labor Day Picnic

Every year the Resident Assistant staff puts on a picnic for the campus community for Labor Day. Free food, music and games from volleyball to board games are some of the highlights.

Welcome Back Dinner

This year will feature the first ever Welcome Back Dinner. This will be a huge barbeque that takes place on the evening of the first day of classes. A great opportunity for students to get to know each other and have some fun.

Peacock Palooza

The Palooza is an annual event that is getting bigger every year. We invite campus offices, student organizations and local organizations (like the DIA and the Detroit Zoo) to the event. Each organization staffs a table to provide information, recruit members and provide volunteer opportunities etc.

Peacock Run

One of the newer traditions at CCS is an annual relay race. Students form their own race teams and compete against other students in a race around the Sculpture Garden.

Sports @ Noon

During the 3rd week of September, the Office of Student Life invites students to come outside at noon and play something with us. Events usually include volleyball, four square, basketball, disc golf, bocce ball and other types of sports.

Entertainment

In addition to the events above, there are also a variety of bands, comedians and novelty entertainment (like game shows) brought to campus starting first thing in September.
