Tutorials

The Success Center's most popular service is the one-on-one tutorial. Tutors are available for all courses offered at CCS, and tutorials are tailored to individual learning styles and academic needs. Tutorials are conducted by peer tutors and Student Success Center staff. Peer tutors are upper-level students who have mastered strategies necessary for success at CCS, and are eager to share their knowledge with fellow students.

Many students find writing assistance tutorials particularly helpful for classes that require research papers, artist's statements, or essays. During these interactive sessions, students brainstorm topic ideas, sharpen grammar and organizational skills, and learn critical reading and editing skills.

Study group tutorials are also offered. Based on demand, the Success Center organizes study groups for students in the same courses. Study groups meet with peer tutors who have successfully completed the class in question.

Workshops

In addition, the Success Center offers workshops open to all students. Workshop topics include time management, learning style identification, overcoming test anxiety, and study skill enhancement.

Additional Services

Several specialized services are available to students with learning challenges. The Success Center provides a private environment for test taking and assigns readers to assist students with visual disabilities.

International students are encouraged to participate in both one-on-one and small group tutorials to sharpen English conversational and writing skills. Currently there is a conversation group that meets once a week to discuss art issues in English.
