Rites of Passage - Reception

Rites of Passage, an exhibition featuring the art work of incoming Award of Excellence participants, will run from September 4th through September 12th in the U245 Student Gallery during regular gallery business hours. An opening reception honoring Rites of Passage will be held on Tuesday, September 4th, from 2-6 pm. The reception is free and open to the public.

Ford II Building College for Creative Studies Lecture/Noon Click here to register online **Toyota Lectures, funded by a generous endowment gift from Toyota Motor Company, occur throughout the year and cover all major areas of design. April Greiman is renowned for her innovative use of advanced technology in problem-solving and the design process since the early 1980s. She pioneered digital design through her unique experiments with the Apple Macintosh. Her projects have become legendary for her experimental merger of type and image. April was born in New York City and studied graphic design at Allgemeine Kuntsgewerbeschule in Basel, Switzerland and the Kansas City Art Institute. Currently, she resides in Los Angeles and manages Made in Space, a multi-disciplinary design practice. She brings a unique approach that blends technology and science with symbol and myth, words and images with texture and space. Her singular expertise is focused on colorsurfaces-materials consulting, trans-media identity and branding projects for such clients as AOL Time Warner, Dosa 818 and the new Prairie View School of Art and Architecture, Texas A+M. In addition, a growing interest in the built environment has led to close collaborations with Emilio Ambasz and Associates, Will Bruder Architects, Frank O. Gehry & Associates and RoTo Architects. Her work has been exhibited worldwide and her list of awards includes accolades from the American Institute of Architects, the AIGA Fellowship and a Gold Medal from American Institute of Graphic Arts. April’s ideas and work have appeared in numerous articles, interviews and broadcasts, ranging from Domus and The New York Times to CNN and PBS. She has published several books, including April Greiman: Floating Ideas into Time and Space, It’snotwhatAprilyouthinkitGreimanis, Hybrid Imagery: The Fusion of Technology and Graphic Design, Seven Graphic Designers and Something from Nothing.
