The Toyota Lecture on Design Presents April Grieman

April Greiman is renowned for her innovative use of advanced technology in problem-solving and the design process since the early 1980s. She pioneered digital design through her unique experiments with the Apple Macintosh. Her projects have become legendary for her experimental merger of type and image. April was born in New York City and studied graphic design at Allgemeine Kuntsgewerbeschule in Basel, Switzerland and the Kansas City Art Institute. Currently, she resides in Los Angeles and manages Made in Space, a multi-disciplinary design practice. She brings a unique approach that blends technology and science with symbol and myth, words and images with texture and space. Her singular expertise is focused on colorsurfaces-materials consulting, trans-media identity and branding projects for such clients as AOL Time Warner, Dosa 818 and the new Prairie View School of Art and Architecture, Texas A+M. In addition, a growing interest in the built environment has led to close collaborations with Emilio Ambasz and Associates, Will Bruder Architects, Frank O. Gehry & Associates and RoTo Architects. Her work has been exhibited worldwide and her list of awards includes accolades from the American Institute of Architects, the AIGA Fellowship and a Gold Medal from American Institute of Graphic Arts. April’s ideas and work have appeared in numerous articles, interviews and broadcasts, ranging from Domus and The New York Times to CNN and PBS. She has published several books, including April Greiman: Floating Ideas into Time and Space, It’snotwhatAprilyouthinkitGreimanis, Hybrid Imagery: The Fusion of Technology and Graphic Design, Seven Graphic Designers and Something from Nothing.

A Benefit for Center Galleries This is a benefit exhibition and sale celebrating Center Galleries’ 20th year, the 10th in its current location, the 10th anniversary of the College’s Woodward Lecture Series, and the 10th anniversary of our Center Galleries Director Michelle Perron. Add these anniversaries up and you get 50 years! 50 Bucks! will feature works of art donated by artists, collectors, critics and patrons, all for sale for $50 each. All proceeds will benefit Center Galleries. Tickets are $50 for two guests. Cocktails, festive food, and entertainment by The Big Shorty Band will be provided, and contributors of art work will receive a free ticket for two to the event. Read more.

You're invited to attend the College for Creative Studies' premier information session. In addition to learning about CCS, you'll have an all-access pass to check out the best of the best, the artwork of the 84th Annual Student Exhibition. Each year, faculty choose the best work produced by CCS Students to be included in the Annual Student Exhibition. This year-end exhibition of more than 5,000 pieces gives current students a chance to show what they have accomplished during the school year and potential students a glimpse into their future. At the May 20th Art & Info Session, admitted and committed students may plan to meet with a financial aid counselor, and register for classes with an academic advisor.
