The Woodward Lecture Series Presents: Joe Zucker, painter

Since the late-1960s, Joe Zucker has explored the balance between material, process and meaning, consistently bringing innovation to what painting can accomplish and be. He makes paintings with every available means except the conventional ones of brush and canvas. Called one of Americas most innovative artists by fellow artist Chuck Close, Zucker achieved extensive recognition in 1970s for his paintings constructed of cotton balls, and he has since used aluminum foil, rubber bands, socks, and pegboard, among other quirky materials, to make his paintings. Recently, Zucker has used the grid as a framework for his compositions, manipulating its structure with color, words, and diagonal lines. Zucker received his MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1964 and now lives and works in New York. Zuckers appearance at CCS coincides with the opening of his solo exhibition at Ferndales Susanne Hilberry Gallery on Friday, March 7. This lecture is co-sponsored by Susanne Hilberry Gallery.

Alumni Scholarship Rides Again!

The awarding process changed through the years, and recently, the award has been given to the student with the top GPA in each major. This year, the Alumni Scholarship returned to its roots with a competition format.
