CCS Product Design students Anthony Reale and Veronika Scott are finalists for the World Design Impact Prize. Reale's project "Strait Power" is a hydro kinetic turbine solution that takes an ancient technology of harnessing power from the water, and turns it into a evolutionary design that harnesses power with nature. View his project at http://worlddesignimpact.org/projects/project/32/ "The Empowerment Plan" created by Scott, is a humanitarian project that centers around the Element S Coat. It is self heated, waterproof, and transforms into a sleeping bag at night. http://worlddesignimpact.org/projects/project/38/ The online gallery of nominated socially responsible design projects is now open for the public to view, critique, rate and share through August 30.

The General Motors Foundation donated $2.5 million to CCS yesterday. The College held an event honoring this donation and renamed the auditorium in the A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education after the automaker.

"A painting by a local artist will be the face of the Port Huron-to-Mackinac race this year. It is the first time that an existing painting is being used for posters and T-shirts being produced for the July 24 Bells Beer Bayview Mackinac Race."

Rick Valicenti has been awarded the prestigious Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award in Communication Design. Valicenti has been a friend and mentor to CCS for several years now, most recently mentoring a group of CCS students on the CCS Viewbook project.

Fifteen students of the College for Creative Studies in Detroit spent 14 weeks as volunteers at Henry Ford Hospital last winter and fall, visiting doctors and nurses and hanging around waiting rooms and operating rooms, looking for medical devices and products that could be improved.

According to the National Institutes for Literacy, nearly half of all adults in Detroit are illiterate. This fact is even more dismal in light of recent talks about decreased funding and widespread library closures. Fortunately, there is some good news at the Detroit Public Library’s Redford Branch! The branch, in partnership with College for Creative Studies’ (CCS) Community Arts Partnerships (CAP), is sponsoring a dedication program to unveil a mural created by youth in the community. The event will take place on Wednesday, June 15 from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m.

CCS is proud to announce that Advertising alumna Brandi Keeler won a Gold CUBE Award from the Art Directors Club (ADC) for her viral video “Add Flavor to It” and the creative team of Kyle Gracey and Patrick Siedel won a Merit award for their multimedia campaign, "Tips for Maximum Enjoyment."
