CCS Graphic Design Alumna To Be Featured in CMYK
Basia Rochon ’07, Graphic Design, was named a design winner by CMYK magazine and will have her work showcased in the magazine's winter 2007-08 issue. CMYK is regarded as the most high-profile emerging creative portfolio contest in the nation. The featured project is an IKEA book created by Rochon in her Advanced Visual Communications class taught by Chad Reichert, assistant professor.

CCS Hosts Michigan Mud
On October 26 and 27, CCS is hosting the Michigan Ceramic Art Association’s biennial Michigan Mud conference. The conference includes demonstrations and lectures by many Michigan ceramic artists, with Pete Pinnell as the featured guest artist. Pinnell, who spent many years as a potter, currently is an instructor at the University of Nebraska. Pinnell often offers workshops and has been in exhibitions throughout the world. In addition, he writes a monthly column, "As Far As I Know," for the magazine Clay Times.

2007 Michelin North America/CCS Student Design Competition
During the past 19 years, hundreds of College for Creative Studies students have gained valuable skills by participating in the Michelin North America Student Design Competition. This year's competition challenges students to create vehicle designs that they could envision driving in North America in 2017. The concepts must reflect their interpretation of a vehicle that is “Smaller. Safer. Better.”

Legendary Concept Designer Syd Mead Visits CCS
Syd Mead, one of the most celebrated concept designers, recently spent time on the CCS campus visiting with students. Mead met with the future designers and shared insights into his background, the industry and the future of design. He also had informal conversations with students reviewing their portfolios, answering questions and sharing key details of his work.

Twenty-three Michigan Colleges and Universities Partner to Attract and Retain Talent
CCS has joined with 22 other public and private Michigan colleges and universities to launch the Michigan Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (Michigan HERC) to share information and resources to attract and retain talented faculty and staff.

Computer Arts Issue 139 features the work of CCS Graphic Design student Courtney James in the Exposure section. James is highlighted in the two-page spread which includes a brief profile and description of her work.

CCS Alumnus Awarded AIGA Medal
CCS Graphic Design alumnus Ed Fella, an artist, educator and graphic designer whose work has had an important influence on contemporary typography, was recently awarded the AIGA Medal. After three decades as a successful commercial artist Fella received his degree from CCS in 1985, he continued on to receive an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Fella has spent the last 20 years as a professor at California Institute of the Arts, where he has profoundly impacted the design program.
