CCS' Toyota Lecture Series on Design welcomes urban designer Damon Rich on Thursday, March 25 at 6 pm
3/19/10
College for Creative Studies will host a Toyota Lecture on Design by urban designer and founder of the Center for Urban Pedagogy (NYC), Damon Rich on Thursday, March 25 at 6 pm. Rich will speak on ways design (including exhibitions, graphic design, and urban planning) connects democratic politics, everyday life, and the built environment.
Damon Rich is a designer and artist, and serves as the urban designer and waterfront planner for the City of Newark, New Jersey. His design work has been exhibited internationally at venues including the Storefront for Art and Architecture and SculptureCenter in New York City, the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, Netherlands Architecture Institute in Rotterdam, and the 2008 Venice Biennale.
In 1997, he founded the Center for Urban Pedagogy (CUP), a New York City nonprofit organization that uses the power of design and art to improve the quality of public participation in urban planning and community design. In 2007, he was a Loeb Fellow in Advanced Environmental Studies at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. His solo exhibition Red Lines Housing Crisis Learning Center was on view at the Queens Museum of Art May 31-September 27, 2009.
The lecture is free, open to the public, and held at CCS’s Wendell W. Anderson Jr. Auditorium located in the Walter B. Ford II Building on the Walter and Josephine Ford Campus (201 East Kirby, Detroit, MI 48202).
