Support for CCS’s Asian American and Pacific Islander Community
February 25, 2021Dear CCS Community,
Some of you may have become aware of the recent hate crimes in San Francisco directed at the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. The College for Creative Studies condemns all forms of racism and bigotry. The Office for Institutional Equity & Inclusion, International Student Services Office, DEI Advisory Council and I want to express our concern for any CCS community members who have been affected.
Dear CCS Community,
Some of you may have become aware of the recent hate crimes in San Francisco directed at the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. The College for Creative Studies condemns all forms of racism and bigotry. The Office for Institutional Equity & Inclusion, International Student Services Office, DEI Advisory Council and I want to express our concern for any CCS community members who have been affected.
We also wanted to reinforce our commitment to fostering a community of inclusion that is free from harassment and discriminatory practices built on a foundation of respect, empathy, and knowledge. This sentiment is also underscored in the Chairs’ Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion released in 2020.
Our DEI Advisory Council works to support the College’s commitment to advance the creation of a welcoming, safe, supportive, creative, and connected culture at the College. We stand in unity with President Biden’s January 26th, 2021 Memorandum Condemning and Combating Racism, Xenophobia, and Intolerance Against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.
In these challenging times, please know there are available campus resources including the Wellness Center, the Office of Institutional Equity & Inclusion (OIEI), International Student Services Office (ISSO), Academic Affairs, Human Resources, Student Affairs leaders and staff, and others that can offer support. Connecting with others can be powerful. To report an incident in our community, please notify Campus Safety. If you have witnessed incidents of bias, hate, and/or discrimination, you can utilize the College’s Hate/Bias/Discrimination form.
By supporting one another and working together we can make a better, more just world free of violence and hatred. Please continue to support each other through these challenging times.
In solidarity,
President Don Tuski
In partnership with the Office for Institutional Equity & Inclusion, International Student Services Office, DEI Advisory Council (2020-21)
