Summer Exploratory

Selected by the National Endowment for the Arts in 2006 for exemplary summer arts education.

July 22-August 4, 2007

This camp allows you to study with other young artists who share your interest, while strengthening your portfolio in a particular area. Group critiques and individual reviews with CCS faculty and staff will be important elements of your experience.

This intensive, two-week program is designed for serious young artists with prior drawing experience who want to explore one of the following curriculum areas in-depth:

  • Automotive Design
  • Animation
  • Sculpture

While enrolled in this program, students will live on campus and experience life at a college of art and design. There will be cultural and recreation events to attend that will allow students to check out Detroit's Cultural Center, in addition to getting to know the other students and CCS faculty and staff.

CCS Admissions counselors will be available the entire time you are on campus, to answer questions, review your portfolio's current state, show you around, and discuss scholarship opportunities.

High school sophomores, juniors and seniors from across the country come together to learn from experienced faculty and accomplished artists. Students will earn 1 credit for completing Camp Portfolio and 3 credits if they decide to attend Summer Exploratory as well.

Curriculum

Students can choose to study in one of the following areas:

Automotive Design
Transform your unique vision into a prototype. From concept sketches to rendering in three-dimensions and modeling in clay- learn what it takes to be a car designer.

Sculpture
Appreciate the expressive potential of handmade objects by experimenting with a variety of techniques and materials.
