Three senior CCS Product Design students, Joseph Cooper, Karl Clayton Sluis and Adam Cassino are finalists in the 2009 Billes Products International Design Contest.
CCS Product Design alumni Matthew Vergin and Ryan Callahan, 09 won a prestigious Gold in the 2009 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) competition, a celebration of the most innovative and exciting product and product concept designs of the year and one of the world’s most prestigious design competitions.
During the 10th anniversary Pittsburgh Glass Works (PGW) Design Challenge, sophomore Transportation Design students at CCS designed vehicle concepts that address the functional needs of a lifestyle vehicle buyer while showing the versatility of glass in providing unique styling as well as utility, comfort and convenience.
CCS Product Design seniors Scott Puckett and Elliott Smith drew from their interest in Detroit’s underground fixed-gear (Fixie) culture to develop Lifecycles a new line of customizable bicycle. The underground Fixie culture connects enthusiasts all over the world who prefer bikes with the rear wheel and pedals connected through a single gear anchored to the wheel.
CCS Product Design juniors will exhibit their creative interpretations of classic chairs at Birmingham’s Design Within Reach store beginning with an opening reception on Friday, May 1 from 6 – 9 p.m. and continuing through Wednesday, May 13. Design Within Reach is located at 168 W. Maple Rd., Birmingham, Mi 48009.
In conjunction with the NCAA 2009 Men’s Final Four tournament weekend, The Boll Family YMCA will host its second annual multi-media basketball exhibit, called The Sneaker Project. The four-day event, which begins with an opening reception on Friday, April 3 at 6 p.m., and runs through Monday, April 6, celebrates the influence of the sneaker in basketball, design, and as a major cultural influence with today’s youth.
CCS Product Design student Michael Johnson recently had work selected for installation at a new Starbucks located at Crooks and Big Beaver in Troy, Michigan.
CCS alumnus Craig Mackiewicz, Product Design ’08, won a prestigious Gold in the 2008 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) competition, a celebration of the most innovative and exciting product and product concept designs of the year and one of the world’s most prestigious design competitions.
Product Design student Fadi Betak won the Young Designer of the Year Award for the World Super Yacht Awards and participated in the award ceremony in Venice, Italy on April 18.
Several CCS Product Design students recently received industry recognition for their work.
