Residential Design
Through a hands-on approach you will learn the basics of residential planning, furniture placement, drafting, fabric and color selections, kitchen and bath planning, technical training in AutoCAD, and business and presentation skills. Students who successfully complete the program will be qualified to work as a design assistant, residential planner, kitchen and bath designer, home office designer, visual merchandiser, showroom coordinator, design consultant, or draftsperson. Graduates will have also gained the knowledge needed to work as a manufacturer's representative or product specifier and purchaser.
Experience in perspective drawing, color theory and basic design as well as computer proficiency in digital imaging software is recommended. Many of the courses in the diploma program are also courses in the baccalaureate Interior Design program at CCS, and the program has been approved by the College's accrediting agency, the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. Students will have the option of transferring the diploma credits they earn in this program into the B.F.A. Interior Design program if they choose to apply and are admitted.
This 33-credit program is designed in eleven consecutive 3.0 credit courses that can be completed in as few as four semesters of part-time evening and weekend study.
