Assistant Director of Business Services


STATUS: Full Time, 35 hours per week
DIVISION: Business Services
REPORTS TO: Director of Business Services
SUPERVISES: Cashier & Accounting Specialists



This is a detailed-oriented, multiple task position which will assist in all areas of the Business Services office and will back up the Director when necessary and work closely with all aspects of financial information.  The Assistant Director will participate in all month end, year-end and audit processes and will be a key team player in the Business Services area and in its development and attainment of its goals.


  • Oversee all cash operations and perform monthly bank reconciliations for numerous cash accounts;
  • Oversee Accounts Receivable functions including the relationships with students and parents as well as third party collection agencies;
  • Oversee Purchasing and Fixed Asset procedures including the reconciliation of the third party software to the General Ledger;
  • Provide Accounts Payable with weekly check run and new vendor approvals;
  • Cross trained in all positions of the department to assist when needed;
  • Perform month end reconciliations and processing of journal entries to the General Ledger;
  • Assist with inventories, reconciliations and general accounting as it relates to the student bookstore and imaging center;
  • Utilize the Financial Statement and Budgeting third party software to assist in the preparation of Annual Financial Statements and Annual Budget;
  • Act as main point of contact, along with the Director, for the Annual Audit and other Business Service related vendors;
  • Manage the accounting of temporarily restricted and endowment accounts;
  • Work closely with Director on various special projects;
  • Perform additional duties as required.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; 3-5 years financial experience in an educational environment preferred;
  • Proven experience in not-for-profit setting desired; general ledger and bank reconciliation experience highly preferred;
  • Ability to use computers to create effective analyses and reports;
  • Knowledge of an integrated computerized accounting system; Colleague or similar system preferred; proficiency in Microsoft Excel required;
  • Must be able to meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks and have strong analytical skills.


This job operates in a professional office and college campus environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to maintain a stationary position, use a computer and other office equipment, and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and virtually.  Frequent interaction with others, including staff, faculty, students and third parties is required.  The employee may occasionally be required to move files or other objects weighing up to 25 pounds, including from low and high places.  The ability to move around within the office and between buildings on campus, attend off-site meetings and events, and travel between Ford Campus site to Taubman Center site are required.  CCS will make reasonable accommodations that will allow individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
