Foundation – 2D Design Adjunct Faculty
The College for Creative Studies (CCS) invites applications for an adjunct position in the Foundation department with experience in 2D Design. This position reports to the Chair of the Foundation department within the Undergraduate Studies Division. The adjunct member in Foundation is responsible for teaching a studio class that meets twice a week. Classes are scheduled based on availability and may vary each semester.
This position requires strengths in mentoring and motivation of students to achieve their full potential in accomplishing work that meets college level standards as established by the department. The Course Description and Overview are outlined below:
I. Course Description
This course is an introduction to the principles, vocabulary and mechanics of two dimensional design, including the exploration and application of color theory. Students explore design concepts through lectures, readings, discussions, hands-on studio assignments and critiques.
II. Detailed Overview
The purpose of this course is to explore and research the mechanics, effects and purpose of basic visual design and color. Through both hands-on studio application and lectures, the course will focus on a comprehensive understanding of basic visual two-dimensional design and its relationship to the art and design fields. The fundamental elements and principles of design, compositional theory and color theory are introduced through various assignments and lectures. In addition, this course examines the history, concerns and roles of the various ideas which have basic influence in the field of art and design. From this, a more complete understanding is gained regarding the processes involved in creating successful two-dimensional compositions.
Successful candidates must possess a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and have progress toward or completion of a Master’s degree. Priority is given to candidates with college level teaching experience in 2D Design who are also dedicated to establishing themselves as an active part of the art community.
