Learning Management System (LMS) Technologist

POSITION DESCRIPTION
This role will serve as the Canvas technical expert for the CCS community and will be responsible for technical configuration, user/account management, settings, course shell management, role permissions and other functions. This position will report to the Director of Educational Technology and Innovation.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Configure and manage technical settings to ensure Canvas is customized to meet the needs of end users across departments;
- Administer system usage roles, permissions, and individual course settings;
- Communicate new features, and accessibility testing/evaluation to the CCS community;
- Serve as a point of contact for LMS data troubleshooting including student grades, progress, submissions, and basic integrations;
- Troubleshoot issues with core platform functionality;
- Assist in the integration of 3rd party tools and vendors through coordination with integration lead and developers as needed;
- Assist with teaching and learning software such as Adobe, Google, EvaluationKit, Zoom etc.;
- Act as liaison between Educational Technology and Innovation and Information Technology Services to troubleshoot technical issues;
- Act as the administrator for Simple Syllabus, a syllabus management tool and repository;
- Troubleshoot Simple Syllabus issues with platform functionality;
- Communicate to CCS community about Simple Syllabus updates or changes;
- Serve on both I.T.S. and EdTech HelpDesk systems;
- Assist with development and publication of educational resources for faculty.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or proven history in an educational setting;
- Experience working with Canvas or learning management systems;
- High skill set with Microsoft, Zoom, Adobe, Google etc;
- Simple Syllabus experience preferred;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to work effectively as a team leader and colleague across the college;
- Experience working with faculty in Art and Design;
- Competence working across multiple technology platforms;
- Personal experience teaching and teaching or developing online courses (preferred).
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional office and college campus environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to maintain a stationary position, use a computer and other office equipment, and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and virtually. Frequent interaction with others, including staff, faculty, students and third parties is required. The employee may occasionally be required to move files or other objects weighing up to 25 pounds, including from low and high places. The ability to move around within the office and between buildings on campus, attend off-site meetings and events, and travel between Ford Campus site to Taubman Center site are required.
