 Japan Study Abroad

June 7, 2023 – June 14, 2023

This three-credit Entertainment Arts study abroad course explored Tokyo, Japan with an overview of the history and styles of animation, concept, and video game design. As these mediums become more accessible through technology, this trip allows you to discover the role they play in world cultures both as artistic forms of expression and as representations of social and political issues.

Tokyo holds the key to open any culture-focused curriculum. You’ll get plenty of time in the capital to experience what makes Japanese culture unique before entering timeless Shinto shrines in the parks of Shibuya. Look up at the towering screens in the Ginza District or peer down from a cable car atop Mt. Komagatake—either way, Japan will give your curriculum a distinctly new perspective.

Open to Junior and Senior Undergraduate and all Graduate students- letter of recommendation and personal essay required to apply.

Developed by the Entertainment Arts department at the College For Creative Studies, this program is led by adjunct faculty member Mel McCann with support from EF College Study Tours.

Travel

Program price includes round-trip airplanes tickets and on-the-ground transportation. Travelers will need a valid passport.

Passport/VISA or Entry Requirements

Passports

A passport is required for all EF College Study programs. We recommend applying for a passport as soon as you enroll on your program, as it can take up to eight weeks to process. U.S. citizens traveling abroad must bring a passport that is valid for at least six months after the program’s return and has at least three blank pages.

Make sure that the first, middle and last name on your EF account matches your passport. They will use this information when purchasing your flights, and airlines may not permit passengers to board if their ticket does not match their passport exactly. Name changes after 95 days prior to departure carry a minimum $200 fee up to the cost of a new ticket.

For some destinations, EF will need to compile a list of travelers’ passport details (including name, passport number, gender, expiration date, birth date and citizenship) in order to make travel arrangements. EF will contact travelers directly to collect this information. For all other groups, EF will contact travelers to confirm their name and birthdate for ticketing purposes. Group Leaders can log in to their account to keep tabs on travelers’ passport information.

For more information, please visit the U.S. government passport website at travel.state.gov or call Traveler Support at 877-485-4184.
