CCS Takes Center Stage at GM’s ‘Be The Spark’
General Motors recently threw 'Be The Spark — Women Inspiring Innovation,' an event highlighting women in design. Five Detroit designers, including CCS alumna Veronika Scott and chair of Fashion Accessories Design Aki Choklat, spoke on values in design and the challenges of innovation at the GM Tech Center Design Dome in Warren in celebration of Women’s History Month.

Fashion Accessories Design Chair Aki Choklat attended planning meetings and helped coordinate a visit to Detroit for representatives from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). as part of the Industrial Sewing and Innovation Center (ISAIC) initiative to bring fashion manufacturing to the Metro Detroit area.

Fashion Accessories Design Chair Aki Choklat served as a judge at Graduate Fashion Week in London. Choklat also presented the Swarovski Sustainable Accessories Competition Award, which was announced during Graduate Fashion Week.
WATCH ME WORK: Darrin Brouhard, Instructor, Fashion Accessories Design
Brouhard teaches handbags and small leather goods in the Fashion Accessories Design (FAD) program. He is also a pattern and sample maker of fine leather goods for Shinola and a designer of his own rugged yet modern messenger bags, totes and duffels. They are all beautifully crafted and built to last — benefitting from his CCS education, a lifetime of sewing, as well as experience up and down the scale of production from the first cut to the finished product.
