First Year
Your core year of study begins with a sequence of foundational and beginning level studios including *Interdisciplinary Strategies. This first of 6 major studios introduces you to interdisciplinary practices and practitioners, prompting you to begin to define what it is they do, as well as how and why.
You will meet with your faculty mentor to discuss areas of interest and develop a forward-thinking individualized Plan of Work designed to map your direction in studio and liberal arts electives among a broad range of CCS’s current offerings.
Second Year
As a student of Interdisciplinary Art + Design, this is your year to explore! Take beginning and intermediate level studios from a vast array of elective options in Art or Design to diversify your skills and identify areas of interest for more in depth study. Working with your faculty mentor, you will begin to identify courses for future study.
You may also opt to declare a liberal arts minor such as Creative Entrepreneurship or Sustainability and Social Responsibility. With the flexibility of your curriculum, you can integrate multiple minors during your undergraduate career- further supplementing your professional goals.
Check out the full range of CCS’s Studio and Liberal Arts Minors.
Third Year
With a breadth of studio experience under your belt, you will resume Interdisciplinary specific coursework in year three, completing; Art as Narrative, Art as Propaganda, and Interdisciplinary Research and Portfolio.
The first two courses will challenge you to solve art and design problems in both collaborative and individual modes through an interdisciplinary lens. You’ll incorporate historical, cultural and contemporary issues into a variety of media, in an environment that embraces play and experimentation.
Interdisciplinary Research and Portfolio will help you begin the process of building a professional portfolio for use in application to internship opportunities while preparing you for your thesis project with a focus on research, presentation, critique, and communication.
*Eligible students who have completed a studio-based associate’s degree (or equivalent) may be placed into their third year of major studio, allowing for degree completion in as little as 2 years. See admissions for details.
Fourth Year
In your final year of Interdisciplinary Art + Design, you will complete higher-level studios in areas of your choice to help customize and diversify your portfolio. In addition, you will have 2 full semesters of Interdisciplinary Thesis. This self-led Major Studio will allow you the time, resources, and support to fully articulate your art and design portfolio and prepare for your senior exhibition and beyond.
