​Michigan Transfer Agreement & MiTransfer Pathway

Students beginning* their transfer college path from any of the 23 community colleges participating in this agreement to get customized guidance to transfer to CCS using the Art MiTransfer Pathway.

The Art MiTransfer Pathway integrates the general education courses outlined in the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA). Because CCS’s core requirements are specific to degrees in the visual arts, students looking to transfer to CCS should follow both the MiTransfer designated courses and the MTA guide (see above) for the Community College they plan to attend.

*If you have already completed college-level courses, please contact our Transfer Team to get customized guidance prior to starting the MiTransfer Pathway to prevent duplication of credit and optimize transfer upon admission to CCS.

The Art MiTransfer Pathways courses and CCS equivalents are:

• Art History I (DAH 200 Approved Courses)
• Art History II
  • To meet this requirement, take the 2nd course in the sequence at your selected college. Contact our transfer team at CCS if you have questions.
• Drawing I (DFN 101 Approved Courses)
• 2D Design (DFN 117 Approved Courses)
• 3D Design (DFN 118 Approved Courses)

The Art MiTransfer pathway also stipulates that students should complete 2 additional studio courses at the community college level.

Studio Requirement One
We recommend all students complete the following course:

• Digital Fundamentals (DFN119 Approved Courses)

Studio Requirement Two and Additional Program Requirements
Recommendations for the second studio course are provided in groupings below and are based on major requirements at CCS. Please contact our transfer team for equivalent course recommendations if you are unable to find a match in the Michigan Transfer Network.

Additional Program requirements listed by major will help students select qualifying electives at their community college that will transfer toward their intended CCS major.

For Art Practice (Fine Arts), Illustration, and Craft & Material Studies (Ceramics, Fiber and Textiles, Furniture, Glass, Metalsmithing & Jewelry) Select ONE of the following studios:

• Drawing II: Visualization (DFN112)
• Intro to Painting (DFA120)
• Intro to Printmaking (DFA 115)
• Intro to Sculpture (DFA 130)
• Crafts Elective (DCR/DCE/DME—)
• Fine Arts Elective (DFA—)

Additional program requirements that students can use to fulfill requirements at both 2 year and 4 year level for these majors:

• Business Practices (DAS213)
• Composition II (DEN 108) – may also count toward MTA requirements
• World Literature (DEN239) – may also count toward MTA requirement

For Photography or Entertainment Arts (Animation, Game Design, and Digital Film) Select ONE of the following studios:

• Fundamentals of Imaging (DFN141) OR Drawing II: Visualization (DFN112)
  • Students interested in Animation or Game Design should take Drawing II
• Photography (Digital and Traditional options at 100 level)
• Intro to Digital Filmmaking (DMA125)
• Intro to 3D Computer Graphics (DMA 217)

Additional program requirements that students can use to fulfill requirements at both 2 year and 4 year level for these majors:

• Business Practices (DAS213)
• Composition II (DEN 108) – may count toward MTA requirements
• World Literature (DEN239 – may count toward MTA requirement
• History of Film (DAH315) or History of Photography (DAH313) – may count toward MTA requirements

For Advertising or Communication (Graphic) Design Select ONE of the following studios:

• Fundamentals of Imaging (DFN141) OR Drawing II: Visualization (DFN112)
• Students interested in Advertising should take Drawing II
• Typography I
• Motion Graphics

Additional program requirements that students can use to fulfill requirements at both 2 year and 4 year level for these majors:

• Business Practices (DAS213)
• Composition II (DEN 108) – may count toward MTA requirements
• World Literature (DEN239 – may count toward MTA requirement
• History of Graphic Design (DAH 347)- may count toward MTA requirements

Critical Information

Students are not guaranteed admission by the MiTransfer Pathways agreement. Students seeking admission are encouraged to apply the fall prior to their intended start term for full scholarship consideration and priority registration.

A grade of “C” or above (2.0) is required to transfer credit.

Work examples from studio courses required to secure approval of transfer credit- be sure to save or document images from all courses completed at a college level.
