CCS MFA Integrated Design Thesis Project Tackles the Needs of the Blind
DiMilia, a graduate of CCS’s MFA program in Integrated Design, wanted to create something for people whose disabilities, and the potential of their remaining abilities, are often overlooked by product design. ARIS, a sensor inserted into the user’s shoe coupled with a phone application, utilizes the remaining senses of people who are blind or have low vision and, according to DiMilia, pushes their potential even further.

The Empowerment Plan, created by CCS alumna Veronika Scott, to expand to Chicago and New York City
The Empowerment Plan, which started as a school project by Veronika Scott in the CCS Product Design department, is a non-profit company that designs, manufactures and provides warm coats that turn into sleeping bags to the homeless. Scott's company started off as a small team of women (who were once homeless themselves) and is now growing into a team of 60 and is soon to expand into other major cities including New York and Chicago.
