Sommelier Marta Delfa, export manager and brand ambassador USA, will represent Bodegas Torres at the event.
Established in 1870 by Jaime Torres Vendrell, Bodegas Torres made a name for itself during World War II, filling a need left open by the French wine industry during Germany’s occupation of France. Today, Torres exports millions of cases of wine each year to more than 140 countries. Five generations of the Torres family have managed the wine producer, currently led by president and managing director Miguel A. Torres. The winery also runs the Miguel Torres Chile winery in the Chilean Central Valley and in the Marimar Estate in California. Bodegas Torres’ head office is located near Barcelona, Spain, in the Penedès region, with additional vineyards across the country.
In 2016, Bodegas Torres was ranked as the Most Admired European Wine Brand by the prestigious British magazine Drinks International for the sixth year in a row.
DIWA guests will not only enjoy a selection of Torres wines generously donated by the winery but will also bid on the Featured Vintner’s Grand Lot, a “Spanish Experience for Four”: seven days and six nights in Barcelona and Torres estates in Catalan wine country.
The Detroit International Wine Auction is one of the largest wine auctions in the country and the College’s largest annual fundraising event. Proceeds benefit scholarships for talented undergraduate CCS students and free art programs for more than 4,000 Detroit youth. The 36th DIWA is chaired by Danialle Karmanos and Peter Karmanos, Jr.
