CCS’ Center Galleries Opens Two New Exhibitions

CCS Center Galleries will kick off the fall season beginning Friday, September 7 with an opening event from 6 - 8 p.m. The reception will celebrate the opening of "Boldly Embedded: American Quilts from Lancaster County, PA to Gee's Bend," which features the collection of Detroiter Kempf Hogan. Hogan has spend decades amassing an important, visionary collection of American quilts, including samples of 19th Century Mennonite quilts from Lancaster Country, Pa., American Studio quilts, and contemporary African-American quilts from the deep South, including Gee's Bend, Alabama. The exhibition, which celebrates the beauty, economy and necessity of this great American art form, features fourteen quilts collected by Hogan over the past three decades. Also opening in the Alumni & Faculty Hall: "Black/White," an exhibition of work by CCS alumni. Both exhibitions run through October 20. Center Galleries is located on the CCS campus in Detroit's Cultural Center, at 301 Frederick Douglass at the corner of Brush.
