CCS student designs wrench put into production by Black & Decker

During a 2009 internship, current CCS senior Jonathan Salerno designed the Ready Wrench under the direction of Black & Deckerâ??s design group. The company liked Salernoâ??s creation so much that it quickly patented the design and put it into production. The new wrench is a great example of both convenience and innovation for hand tools. In the convenience column, this single tool is designed to fit 16 sizes of nuts and bolts in a solidly built, simple-to-use device. Plus the wrench includes a convenient ratcheting feature that makes jobs easier and faster. In the innovation column, this was the first all-in-one wrench introduced into the market place and the materials Salerno introduced into the product are currently being used by Black & Decker in other products.
