The College for Creative Studies emerged the clear winner in the 2013 Car Design News Interior Motives Design Awards. Sponsored by Ford and Volkswagen, the awards showcase the best student automotive designs from among hundreds of entries from around the world.

CCS students won or were shortlisted in a number of categories -- more than any other institution. As a result, the College received the prestigious Most Successful School Award, which acknowledges the schools that nurtured such talented designers.

Alumnus Johad Ellis (’13 Transportation Design) won the award for Best Production Interior for his “Ford Concept,” a car sharing system that would allow users to review potential drivers and passengers via a social sharing app. Car Design News noted that Ellis’ design “stands out as one of the most thorough design proposals of 2013.” Ellis currently works as an automotive interior designer for Volkswagen AG.

Geumwook Lee’s ('14 Transportation Design)  “Shell” design, which reimagined a car’s structure using the forms of a seashell, won the award for Best Conceptual Exterior. Enzo Rothfuss of Audi called it “a very three-dimensionally resolved proposal with a strong ‘first-read effect.’”
