Sarah J. Alleman, ’12 Photography, always dreamed of opening a gallery where up and coming artists could showcase their work. Tragically, Sarah’s dream was cut short. While in Grand Rapids presenting her Senior Thesis at Art Prize, Sarah was struck by a motorcycle and later died from her injuries.
In remembrance of her life, her family and friends have put together an event that would not only honor Sarah’s life and art, but also help realize her dream of having a space to feature promising new artists.
On January 25, a gallery viewing of Sarah’s work will be held at CCS’s Manoogian Visual Resource Center, Faculty and Alumni Hall at 6:00 p.m. Her exhibit entitled “hope in you alone” will open that evening and be available to view for a month alongside alumna and renowned photographer, Jenny Risher.
Following the closing of the exhibit at 8:00 p.m., attendees are invited to attend an afterglow to celebrate Sarah’s legacy. This afterglow, also entitled “hope in you alone”, will provide an opportunity to purchase t-shirts with an image of Sarah’s tattoo. Students in Sarah’s graduating class have also agreed to donate their art to be sold in a silent auction. For those not able to attend the event, donations can be made at any time directly here (https://giving.collegeforcreativestudies.edu/pages/sarah-alleman-fund-donation-page) under the designation of Sarah J. Alleman Fund.
