Policy on Missing Classes Due to Illness

CCS recognizes that students and faculty may miss classes due to COVID-19 illness, potential illness, and/or travel interruptions.  Students, faculty and staff who are concerned that they are ill should exercise caution in attending classes.  Faculty should provide as much flexibility in excusing absences due to illness as possible to avoid any potential spread of disease.  Please refer to the prevention tips included at the top of this message for additional measures you can take to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other communicable diseases.

A Message of Support for the CCS Community

We must be caring and empathetic towards each other during this time. Many of our students and employees have family and friends that are being directly affected by the COVID-19 situation. Respect and compassion are what we should expect from each other as members of the same community, a community that values inclusion and support for one another.

It is important to remember that stigma and discrimination occur when people associate an infectious disease, such as COVID-19, with a population or nationality. COVID-19 does not target people from specific populations, ethnicities or racial backgrounds. Knowing and sharing accurate information can help stop stigma. Derogatory and insulting words and actions will not be tolerated by the College.

Due to the outbreak of Coronavirus/COVID-19, CCS has made the difficult decision to cancel all outgoing study abroad programs for this summer (2020). Students currently attending study abroad programs in countries with a level 2 or higher on the CDC Travel Warning Index have been asked to return home.

Should you have plans to study abroad this summer, we ask that you cancel, or postpone your travel. This decision has been made in the best interest of the health, safety and well-being of students, and our community at large.

If you or your families have concerns or questions about future academic travel, please feel free to contact the International Student Services Office at 313.664.7449 or
