Thomai Gersh was born in Greece, but considers herself a life-long Detroiter.
She has degrees in Philosophy, Education Sociology and Psychology. She has worked in public schools as a teacher, school psychologist and special education administrator. She has worked with students with special needs from their infancy through young adulthood in the Detroit Public Schools, Macomb Intermediate School District and the Bloomfield Hill Schools. In addition, Thomai has been in private practice, focusing her clinical work on children and young adults. Thomai has taught about potential causes, the impact on learning, family dynamics, and ethical issues related to intellectual disability at Wayne State University for over a decade. She is currently Supervisor of Special Education in Bloomfield Hills Schools. Thomai teaches a course on human development, creativity and visual learning in the Art Education Department.
