Von has more than 20 years of industry experience as well as experience teaching at the college level.

He comes to CCS from Steelcase Inc. in Grand Rapids, Mich., where he served as Principal Designer for the company’s Health business. In that capacity, he was responsible for integrating the links between brand vision, strategy, concept development, and implementation for the unit’s product line. Prior to that, Von maintained the independent design practice VRiD, based in New York City, where he designed for a roster of clients in the US and Europe, including Moroso, Rado, Idée Japan, Frighetto (now Estel), Swatch, The Cooper Hewitt Design Museum, Hamilton Watch Co., Estée Lauder, Island/Def Jam Records, and Rocawear. He began his career with the noted designer Eva Zeisel, where he created products for Nambe, Design Within Reach, Crate and Barrel, and Klein Reid.

Von is the recipient of several awards, including Metropolis Magazine’s 10 up-and-coming design firms; The Best Italian Design Products award for the Clarke Lounge Chair; The International Design Yearbook for the Play Orbiter; and co-recipient of the International Packaging Design Award for Prescriptive Cosmetics. Von graduated from Parsons School of Design where he specialized in furniture, product, industrial ceramics, ethics, and systems thinking. He has lectured nationally and written for Metropolis and Surface Design magazines.
