Professional Experience:

Since 2003, Serene has worked with companies and organizations in regional, non-profit, and political marketing and messaging, and is currently Director of Visual Communication for EarlyWorks llc, a Detroit-based social impact and strategy firm, continuing her focus on community-oriented design and infrastructure.

Significant Publications/Presentations/Exhibitions:

  • Curatorial member of Public Design Trust, which presented the exhibition, "Footwork," at the 2017 Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Étienne, in conjunction with Detroit's UNESCO City of Design designation.
  • Winner, Excellence in Journalism Award for Photography/Graphics from the Society of Professional Journalists, Detroit Chapter for the Hope Starts Here Community Framework piece
  • D Show Award 2012 winner: Alternatives For Girls: Best political/PSA
  • Pollie Award Winner 2011: Best in Show: Double Up Food Bucks
