Chris Untalan

Research Interests:

Chris is a figurative artist, making realistic drawings and sculptures of nude figures. His interest in the "human condition" informs his subject matter and form sense mainly using literature or mythology as subject matter.

Professional Experience:

Chris Untalan made drawings for most of his life. In 1998 he received his BFA from the University of Michigan with a major in Scientific Illustration. While pursuing his illustration degree he accidentally discovered sculpture as a new passion. He immediately went on to the New York Academy of Art to study Sculpture and received his MFA in 2000. 
While sculpture became his preferred medium he has never given up drawing. After completing his Master’s degree he taught drawing and anatomy at the New York Academy of Art. Later, in 2003 he was appointed an Assistant Professorship at Boston University where he taught sculpture, drawing and anatomy. He currently teaches drawing part time at Eastern Michigan University.
