Raphael Zammit’s teaching, research, and expertise are in vehicle design, conceptual visualization, and aesthetic messaging. In these areas, he has consulted, presented, published, exhibited, and juried competitions nationally and internationally.

Most recent activities include:

1. Publications in Bloomberg.com, Forbes.com, Wired.com, and Car Design News.com.

2. Professional design consulting in the areas of corporate brand strategy, as well as advanced product and service planning – done both directly for companies and consultancies such as Michelin and Argo Design, and through subcontracting for a UK based research consultancy, Car Design Research

3. International presentations and workshops given at mobility conferences such as the Seoul Smart Mobility International Conference (Seoul, South Korea), Moving ‘ON symposium (Montreal, Canada), Kookmin University (Seoul, South Korea), and for Shytools. Inc. in Shanghai, China.

4. Two-year interdisciplinary research project between CCS MFA Transportation Design and Clemson University’s Graduate Engineering, to design, engineer, manufacture, and test a full-scale, fully functioning, autonomous, shared-mobility, micro-bus prototype.

Professional Experience

Raphael Zammit came to CCS from the University of Cincinnati where he was the lead faculty for transportation design. He also served as the Coordinator of the Industrial Design Program from 2011 to 2014.

Prior to teaching, his career in automotive design spanned eight studios in four countries across Europe, Asia, and North America – working in the areas of advanced concept vehicles, production vehicles, and strategic branding.

Beginning in Stuttgart, Germany Zammit designed for Porsche A.G. and taught Transportation Design at AHG Pforzheim. He then worked in Barcelona, Spain for Volkswagen/Audi’s advanced concept studio before returning to the US where he joined Hyundai’s California studio, with stints in Hyundai’s South Korean global headquarters. He then joined General Motors’ advanced concept studio in North Hollywood, CA, from which he returned to Detroit, Michigan where he contributed to the revival of the Chevrolet Camaro and the creation of the Global Brand Studio.
