Professional Experience

Early career work involved him with power system controls (with GE), welding process automation (with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers), and electric propulsion technology (with the U. S. Navy’s Naval Undersea Warfare Center). From 1988 to 1992, he was an assistant professor of electrical engineering at Auburn University. In September 1992, Steve joined Ford Motor Company to work on Formula 1 vehicle control systems and began a 15-year stay at Ford and Visteon Corporation, during which he worked on vehicles ranging from racecars to passenger cars and light trucks; on systems ranging from powertrains and chassis to climate and interiors; with technologies from electronic to hydraulic and mechanical; in roles involving innovation, testing, manufacturing, technology development strategy, and management; and in remote, onsite, and long-distance collaboration settings with technical staffs in North America, South America, and Europe. From 2007 to 2011, Steve was an associate professor at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research, where he helped develop the graduate-level automotive engineering program. He is presently principal consultant of KonseptWerks LLC and has taught at CCS since 2012.
