Library

The library has over 60,000 books, 267 periodicals, 64 electronic databases, and over 2,500 videos and DVDs, 90 percent of which deal with art and design. The Library catalog and additional resources are available here: http://libguides.collegeforcreativestudies.edu/home. The college's digital database, Luna, is available online for study and classroom presentation; please see Academic Technology for training.

You will need your current CCS ID to check out books. Students may check out books for two weeks with one renewal if there are no holds placed on the book. Other materials have varying check out fines; please check at the circulation desk 313.664.7642.

Reference assistance is available at all times the library is open.

Colors & Materials Library

The library collection includes 75 periodicals, more than 3000 books and hundreds of material samples. The collection of books and magazines focuses on product design, materials, graphic design, interior design, advertising, transportation design, architecture, fashion, and trends. The frequently updated materials collection consists of over 1000 reference samples of textiles, metals, plastics, wood, bamboo, cork, glass, paper, and color swatches.

The library subscribes annually to New York-based Material ConneXion, WGSN, LS:N Global and STYLUS electronic databases, which are available to all students and faculty. In addition, the library provides the full Pantone Color Reference Library and color specifier in its color theory collection. There are four computers for internet searching and word processing, and two scanners for materials that cannot leave the Library. In addition, an iPad is stationed between the two computers to access Josef Albers complete Interaction of Color, and a Gretag MACBETH light testing box is available to aid in color matching and evaluation.

Visual Resources

Visual Resources, located in the CCS Ford Campus Library, manages the content of a digital image database with over 315,000 subscription and in-house images for teaching and research purposes. The database can be accessed online by faculty and students using their Blackboard credentials.

Our local collection of images includes approximately 80,000 images selected specifically for use in art, design and art history classes. The images are high resolution and cataloged for easy access.
