Two Illustration students were selected for their work to be displayed in a virtual exhibition.

Graduating senior Ryan El-Yafouri received The Howard Koslow Memorial Award for Excellence in Illustration for his mixed media piece “Dancing in Gucci Now,” while senior Nate Sweitzer had two pieces selected, “The Tell Tale Heart” and “Stax Records.” Both illustrators were selected to have their pieces featured in the “Society of Illustrators Virtual Exhibition” that opened on June 2, 2021.

Every year since 1981, the Society has held the Student Scholarship Competition. The competition receives more than eight thousand entries from college professors, but only a little over three hundred are chosen each year—pieces are accepted based on the quality of technique, concept, and skill of chosen medium.

The Society of Illustrators is based in New York City and was founded in 1901. It’s the oldest nonprofit organization that is dedicated to the art of illustration in America.
