‘Talk to Your Kids About Art School’ Part Deux

The College for Creative Studies is at it again – parodying PSA’s of the 80’s in their ‘talk to your kids about art school’ ad campaign, but this time with video – old school analog commercials being delivered to you via rabbit ears (not really, but you get the point). The grain, the music, the acting - a series of six, one-minute commercials were released over the course of two weeks on social media, in an effort to duplicate the viral nature of their first PSA campaign from 2011 in conjunction with Team Detroit (now Global Team Blue).


The beginning of the video roll-out was (purposely) met with great confusion. Teasers were fed to our audience via Instagram, Insta-stories, Facebook and Twitter:

And then the video roll-out began...

CCS's audience immediately responded with confusion - were these ads really from the 80's? 

The series was loved equally by those alive in the 80's and those who just appreciate all-things-80's, including Finn Wolfhard, star of the Netflix series "Stranger Things," who with his 11.1 million followers, commented on one of our videos:

The campaign ran over the course of two weeks and had over 1.5 million views... not too shabby for a small, non-profit art school in Detroit. 

Although most of our audience caught on that the videos were shot present day, there was still some lingering confusion that we had to clear up. Here came the "behind the scenes" sneak-peaks of our video director recording the track "Dressing Up" in his studio:

But it didn't end there. The campaign wrapped up with an Instagram story user participation pole - asking if the ads were old or new (most had caught on by then)... 

and then asked everyone which one was their fav...
